the title was taken from either a poem by Kathleen Raine, who said around her autobiography that Maxwell got been a love of her life.

the book describes how else he brought a Smooth-coated Otter back from Iraq and raised it in Scotland. He took a otter, known as Mijbil, to the London Zoological Society, where it was decided that this was antecedently unknown subspecies, and it was known as fallowing him: Lutrogale perspicillata maxwelli. A book was published by Longmans; a subsequent paperbacked reprinting has ISBN 0140039236.
Film
the film offers a fictionalised account of Maxwell's risky venture when giving the European Otter from a pet store in London to a wild, at the equally fictitious Camusfearna inside Scotland. A theme tune was sung by Val Doonican.
